I can get this error, right click new folder as part of that rename it, hangs, errors, to a Windows 8.1 share. Am interested to hear if this fixes issues on the 2012 server networks.
This is something i did a week or so ago. One thing that worked for a while until different problems surfaced was changing the speed from the client computers down to 10 MB. Also my implementation uses LinqToSql to manage two tables...dbo.Directory and dbo.Content, rather than a single 'Items' table as the example does. He has server 2012 Standard and has 2 windows 7 and 2 windows 8 client computers. Did you verify this by looking at the services / testwise manually disabling these services?
